Anabela “Bella” Barbosa Akhtar

My name is Anabela Akhtar, and I am a Life and Parenting Coach, a mom, and one of the founders of My Two Homes. I moved to Port Washington eight years ago, and have absolutely fallen in love with this town and the amazing community I’ve found here.

My passion for supporting families through change comes not only from my professional work at Daly Elementary School, but also from my own life experiences. I know firsthand the impact divorce can have—both as a child of divorce myself and now as a parent going through one. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges children face and the importance of giving them a safe space to share, connect, and feel understood.

Together with Sue and Julia—two incredible women I connected with through our shared experiences of divorce—I am so grateful, proud, and committed to My Two Homes. Our mission is to make sure families are supported and, most importantly, that children know they are never alone during this difficult process.

Divorce changes the way a family works, but it doesn’t have to end the love that holds it together. With the right tools, parents can create stability, reduce conflict, and help children feel secure and safe across two homes.

Originally from Port Washington, I returned to the community after starting a family of my own. Before having children, I worked as a 5th grade teacher in New York City, holding degrees in both general and special education. I took time off from teaching to be home with my young children, and I’m now excited to be back in the classroom, teaching Pre-K at Child’s World Nursery School in Port.

As a child of divorce, I understand how vital it is for children and families to feel supported and connected during times of transition. Co-creating My Two Homes with Bella and Julia has been a truly life-changing journey.

Not only have I watched my own children grow and thrive alongside others in similar situations, but I’ve also found a strong, inspiring community of women who support one another through every step.

Born and raised in Port Washington, I feel fortunate to have returned to my hometown to raise my 5-year-old son, Monty, in the same supportive and tight-knit community that shaped my own upbringing. As the Executive Director of Brand Partnerships at People Inc. in New York City, I have spent my career cultivating connections, developing impactful collaborations, and driving innovative solutions in the media and publishing industry.

My Two Homes is a deeply personal endeavor for me. As a parent navigating the realities of coparenting, I understand the complexities, challenges, and emotions that come with creating a stable, loving environment for children of divorced or separated families.

Through this platform, my goal is to provide a resource where families can find guidance, share experiences, and build strength. I’m passionate about fostering a community that prioritizes open communication, empathy, and the well-being of children.

Whether it’s through connecting families with expert advice, creating tools for smoother transitions, or simply providing a space for shared understanding, I am dedicated to helping others thrive in their new chapters.
